Buckle markings:

FC50KVF - applies to the Cobra® The Original buckle - no longer produced, although still available for sale.
FY50KVF - applies to the Cobra® Pro Style buckle - a modernized model with a different shape of the curves, preventing blocking with one eyelet, easier access to the  cooperating elements for cleaning.

How to read FY50KVF markings:

FY - the first two letters indicate the type of buckle, here Cobra® Pro Style 9kN

FX indicates the Cobra® Pro Style 18kN buckle, FG indicates the ITW Nexus polymer buckle, FI indicates the Nautic steel buckle, FS indicates the Super Cobra® buckle. FC indicates the Cobra® Frame and frames and slideblock (also earlier models of The Original buckles).

50 - the numbers indicate the size of the tape that will fit in the buckle, in mm

there are also markings 20mm, 25mm, 33mm, 38mm, 45mm, 50mm and 58mm.

K - the fifth letter is the color code K is KTL black

other color markings are F for foliage green, C for coyote brown, E for wolf gray, H for hardcoated gray, etc.

V - means the adjustable half (versatile), the sixth letter always applies male half

F - means fixed half, the seventh letter always refers to the female half

D means half with attached D-ring, G means fixed half for thicker webbing (both male and female),S means adjustable half for thicker webbing (both male and female).
The FF designation means both fixed halves,GG means both fixed halves for thicker webbing,VV means both adjustable halves, SS means both halves are adjustable for thicker webbing, and e.g. SF means the male half is adjustable for thicker webbing and the female half is fixed.

Markings after the dash

XL are enlarged ears for opening the buckle,B are standard blackened ears, XB are enlarged and blackened, XS is reduced.
The +L marking means white lettering on the buckle.
The -TE marking means that the buckle was individually tested for strength.

Coding of the buckle halves

We don't sell buckles like this, but for information purposes here is how to interpret the inscriptions on the buckle halves:
If the second character after the color code (sixth letter) is M, it means the male half of the buckle, just like the picture shows the buckle half FY50_MV for male-versatile.
If the second character after the color code (sixth letter) is W, it means the female half of the buckle, just like the picture shows the buckle half FY50_WF for women-fixed.
